Performance Test Engineer Keys to the role: 

• Extensive manual testing experience
• Strong understanding of capacity and performance testing
• Experience in a distributed environment
• Experience in a Unix / Linux environment
• Looking for someone that wants to come into a development environment and begin to build out the testing platform.
• Automation experience is a plus

 

The Performance Test Engineer will design, develop, and maintain a test harness for executing, recording, and analyzing capacity and performance tests for multi-server web applications. Perform baseline and delta tests to identify performance issues on evolving code bases and architectures. Collaborate with hardware and software architects to identify bottlenecks and areas of improvements such as software optimizations, database optimizations, or hardware optimizations (increased CPU, RAM, Disk IO). 

Performance Test Engineer Job Duties & Responsibilities:
• Establish a test harness framework for the execution of capacity and performance tests, including but not limited to identifying 3rd party tools for performance testing as well as developing custom test scripts and frameworks as necessary.
• Identify areas of instrumentation and logging throughout a multi-server web application including web front end, database backend, and data gateway system
• Perform capacity and performance tests on the various systems, including baseline performance tests and regression tests
• Provide regular capacity and performance test results in an timely and organized fashion
• Assist hardware and software architects in identifying bottlenecks and areas of improvement such as software, database, or hardware optimizations. 

Performance Test Engineer Education & Experience:
• 4 Year Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• 5-7 Years Experience in Test with a focus on capacity and performance test
• 3-5 Years Experience as Test Lead Preferred

Job Requirements:

Performance Test Engineer Technical Skills:
• 5-7 Years Hands-On Test Experience with focus on capacity and performance testing for distributed systems
• Demonstrated ability to develop or identify test harnesses for distributed system testing
• Linux with an emphasis on usage of performance monitoring tools such as top, vmstat, lsof, /proc filesystem etc.
• Proficient in using additional tools and scripts for graphical display of performance and capacity data over time (Excel, gnuplot, etc.)
• Shell Scripting
• SQL/MySQL
• JSON, XML, REST
• Experience with Ruby/Rails, Nginx/Passenger Preferred
